If you are anything like me, the urge to travel right now is off the charts! But, during these uncertain times, international travel is a no-go. Depending on your comfort level, flying may also be something that you want to hold off on. Personally, I only feel comfortable driving to destinations and staying in vacation rentals. We’ve ventured out a few times to places around the US, but our desire to travel a bit further has had to wait for the time being. While we wait for the world to get somewhat back to normal, we have been enjoying PLENTY of travel shows! Here is a list of our favorite shows to explore the world while never leaving your living room. Watch these travel shows to satisfy your wanderlust!

You may notice that many of these shows are food AND travel related… We love to eat and travel, I feel that food plays a large part in our overall experience. So yes, they are largely about food, but nothing gets me more excited about travel than delicious eats!

Somebody Feed Phil / I’ll Have What Phil’s Having

When I watched the first episode of Somebody Feed Phil, I was not into it AT ALL. But, we gave it another try and now we LOVE it! Phil is the creator of Everybody Loves Raymond, and he has a very exciting vibe to him. At first, I thought he was overacting and being fake, but after watching more episodes I now believe he is a genuinely good person who really does get THAT excited about food and life in general. His enthusiasm is contagious and his positivity is refreshing. And man, he sure can eat! I’ll Have What Phil’s Having is Phil’s first show and it has a similar feel to the newer version.

Down to Earth with Zac Efron

may have decided to watch this show due to a certain star hosting it, but now I am really glad I did! If you can get past the overload of product placement (it’s a little out of control), the message is great! Zac travels around the world with health expert Darin Olien to discover sustainable ways to live a healthy life. It’s a totally new perspective on travel as you peek into unique corners of the globe and see how folks are living and thriving on our planet.

Anthony Bourdain (anything)

Anthony Bourdain was the reason I got interested in travel AND food! His passing was a huge shock and broke my heart, but his work lives on. There isn’t one show he created that I don’t love. No Reservations was the first show I watched of his, and it’s a classic. He travels the world eating at the best reviewed restaurants as well as his favorite local dives. More recently Parts Unknown was an amazing series that explored off the beaten tracks destinations and candid conversations with locals (and anyone else that he happened to encounter). Bourdain was edgy, brutally honest, and always compelling to watch. He will always hold a special place in my heart.

Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby

This show is a unique look at some seriously AMAZING hotels! You get to see the behind the scenes workings of these elite resorts through the eyes of hosts Giles and Monica. It’s a really fun watch and all of the hotels are truly incredible. I mean how else would I find out about a hotel that has daily giraffe encounters in the dining room?

The Chef Show

If you loved the movie Chef (which I 100% did), this show is for you! Jon Favreau and chef Roy Choi reunite after filming Chef for a travel/ cooking/ eating adventure around the world! I love seeing these two together, they have great chemistry, plus their laid-back personalities make you feel like you are there cooking and learning right along with them. There was a point in my life that I wanted to be a chef, and even though I did not pursue that path watching this show gives me a little peek behind the curtains and into the culinary world.

Rogue Trip on Disney Plus!

Rogue Trip

This is a gorgeously shot series that follows Bob Woodruff and his son Mack as they travel to some interesting parts of the world. Bob was an ABC news correspondent that covered dangerous stories during his career. In 2006 he was injured and almost died from an explosion in Iraq. It’s amazing to see him wonderfully recovered and eager to get back out and show his son the world through his eyes. Bob is the travel expert, completely at home in what might feel like a dicey situation. His son Mack is awed by his father’s ease in these situations and is in constant amazement of their travels. It’s a beautiful and heartwarming show, I can’t wait to finish the series!

Planet Earth

BBC’s Planet Earth is a breathtaking series the covers natural beauty around the world. If you like nature shows and stunning cinematography, you have to see this series. Seriously, if you haven’t seen it (why not??), go watch it… Now!

Ugly Delicious

Chef David Chang travels the world and eats at the most popular foodie spots. His mission is to break down cultural and culinary misconceptions head-on. He bluntly asks his guests questions about their beliefs (mostly food-related) and WHY they feel that way. His approach is different, but it gives an interesting view of some perspectives and stereotypes that you may not have even realized you had. Plus, tons of good food makes this a foodie must watch!

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Another travel/food show by Chef David Chang. This show seems to have a little less of a message, but sometimes it’s nice to just enjoy the ride. Chang travels to visit various celebrities around the world and enjoys touring and dining together. Though I wasn’t a huge fan of the Seth Rogen episode, the other guests were more my speed. Enjoyment of the show really depends on if you like his celebrity companion, but it’s worth a watch for the awesome food and celebrity screen time if you’re into that sort of thing!

This list should keep you entertained and help ease the travel withdrawals! Or they’ll make it worse. *shrug* Either way, these shows will certainly pass the time and spark some new additions to your own travel bucket list! What makes you excited about travel? What shows are your favorites to watch when the travel bug hits? Let me know in the comments! Stay safe and stay positive, we will be able to travel again someday! =)

  1. I thought about watching Down to Earth the other day but there’s something about it that still hasn’t captured me enough to want to see it. But I think I’m going to watch The Planet Earth collection. It looks mesmerizing!

  2. I don’t need more places on my travel list. 🙂
I tried “Down to Earth with Zac Efron” but it felt a little cheesy to me. Although there’s plenty more to try there. Thanks!
