2020 continues to be a weird year of running for me. Yes, we are in the middle of a pandemic, so live races aren’t happening, and you know, pregnant. So it’s no surprise that my annual Turkey Trot was much different than usual, not that I’m complaining! Since it was virtual I got to SLEEP as long as I wanted on Thanksgiving day, something I haven’t done in years since I ran my first Trot in Texas. I ran the Thankful Turkey Virtual 5k, and I certainly had plenty to be thankful for! Here is my Virtual 5k Thankful Turkey 2020 recap!

Registration

When I went to check out the Turkey Trot website that I participated in last year, this virtual option was available instead! I knew this was the right choice for me, so I went ahead and signed up. It was easy to sign up and choose whichever swag options you wanted. I love that you get a medal for this 5k, it always makes the race just that much sweeter!

Race

With this being a virtual race I got to SLEEP IN on Thanksgiving! Last year when I ran the in-person version of the trot I had to get up VERY early to make it down to Nashville on time. While there are MANY perks of an in-person event, sleeping in was a definite plus for the virtual race!

For the run, I sported my new quarter-zip pullover I got with my registration and ran around my neighborhood for the 3.14 miles. I absolutely shocked myself by clocking sub 9 minutes miles which I haven’t done since I got pregnant! How fast I run these days isn’t as important as the fact that I AM running, but still, I was super proud of myself. I can’t say I will see times like that again during my pregnancy, but it was one last speedy(ish) hurrah! Not surprisingly the farther into this pregnancy I go, the MUCH more difficult running is getting, so I’m just doing the best I can these days!

After the race, it was all about cooking and tasty Thanksgiving treats! This is why I love running Turkey Trots, the post-race meal is always amazing! Check out my post about why the Turkey Trot is the perfect first race HERE =)

Swag

Every runner LOVES medals and swag! This virtual 5k had an awesome pullover long sleeve top and medal. It was a great way to celebrate my race and a wonderful reminder that I can accomplish anything if I put my mind to it!

Overall Conclusion

Overall this virtual 5k was a fantastic and safe way to keep my Turkey Trot tradition alive. Even in the future if I cannot make it to an in-person race I know that the virtual race is an excellent option!
