Our family went on an overnight outing to The Edwin in Chattanooga, Tennessee! I wanted to see the city of Chattanooga, and it is only a few hours away from where we live. We choose another Marriott Bonvoy stay with The Edwin. It is part of the Autograph collection which Marriott describes as “Boutique Hotels that are unique in design and thoughtful in spirit” (marriott.com). The location was excellent and the reviews online were great so we decided to give it a try! Keep reading for our review of The Edwin Chattanooga Tennessee: A Fun and Quirky Destination!

Misty bridge near the Edwin

Location

The Edwin is right in the heart of downtown Chattanooga. You can walk to many attractions (like the Tennessee state Aquarium!). Once you leave the hotel there is an awesome pedestrian bridge over the river. There is also a sculpture garden and many photo opportunities. I was sad we didn’t get to try the ice cream shop literally steps from the hotel. We took a morning walk and easily walked to the aquarium and back. There was one fairly short steep hill, but other than that an easy walk. This hotel was great for a downtown stay, though it was pretty loud facing the street. I am a light sleeper (like honestly crazy light sleeper) and the noise from the street kept me up. I guess that’s the trade-off for an excellent location!

Atmosphere

This hotel gets major props for style! This is why it is an “autograph collection”  property, it is so unique! There is art absolutely everywhere and all the spaces had a cool artsy vibe. I loved the upstairs library area, and even the lobby sitting area felt special. This is a hotel that even if you are not staying there, go and check out the art and grab a drink at the bar. It is definitely worth checking out!

The staff also made the hotel feel special. Every person we encountered was friendly and made us feel welcome =)

Room

Our room at the Edwin was a standard two queen room. It felt a wee bit small, though it was laid out well. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was clean and well-appointed. We did the same thing for this trip that we did for our St. Regis Atlanta trip (read about that trip HERE) which was to wait in the bathroom for the baby to fall asleep. This bathroom was much smaller (which makes sense since it’s a smaller hotel) thus much less comfortable, but it still worked for our purposes.

There was also art around the room, which was a nice touch. They had nice toiletries and a Keurig coffee maker with pods. Each floor offered filtered water and reusable cups were included in each room. I thought that was a nice sustainable touch!

Pool at the Edwin

Amenities

Though I didn’t get the chance to enjoy any of the amenities this trip, I did walk around to get a peek. The pool looked so nice! It is located right off the gym on a rooftop, and if I had been wearing my suit at the moment I would have jumped right in! It was very welcoming looking, I could imagine a relaxing time there. The gym was decent sized for the size of the hotel with plenty of equipment. I took that day off from running, but there were plenty of treadmills if I had wanted to run!

There is also a spa located on the first floor. I wanted to check it out, but they didn’t open until after we were leaving. Maybe next time I’m in town!

Food

Even though there was no room service, we were able to grab food to go and bring it back to our room. The first night we got burgers from the rooftop bar, Whisky Thief, which was tasty. In the morning we got coffee and a pastry from the coffee shop Provisions, which were also great. The coffee shop was fairly small, though the coffee was great to grab and start your day on the go! I would have LOVED to try brunch at Whitebird, their signature restaurant. The reviews were excellent and the menu looked divine. Next time!

Overall Conclusion

This trip was so short! I guess if we learned anything from our one-night trip it’s that traveling with a baby you might want to plan more time at your destination. We didn’t get to do very much during our stay, though it was still nice to get away from the house for a bit.

If you are a light sleeper, perhaps ask to be away from the street if possible. The street noise combined with being able to hear our fellow patrons through the wall made it a rough night for me. I know my baby didn’t mind the noise, so the hotel could be fine for families if no one is a super light sleeper. It would be perfect for folks wanting to check out the nightlife in the city (or even just the rooftop bar on site!).  Other than the noise aspect, everything else about the hotel was great. It truly was an amazing location and really a special place to stay. The art, food, and atmosphere made it not just a hotel but a destination worth checking out!
